Neville Steele will share the hard-won lessons of building and sustaining a food business in a new country for over 20 years — a journey built on craft, quality, and community.
Neville, co-founder of the Australian Bakery Cafe on Marietta Square, brings a story as rich and layered as the legendary meat pies that put his business on the map.
A third-generation master baker from the small Australian outback town of Boort, Neville learned the trade the old-fashioned way — apprenticing under his father before reuniting with childhood friend Mark Allen at Melbourne's William Angliss Food College, where the two became the top apprentices in the state of Victoria.
In December 2001, Neville and Mark brought a little piece of Australia to
Marietta, opening the first authentic Australian bakery in North America.
More than two decades later, the Australian Bakery Cafe remains a beloved institution on Marietta Square, drawing locals, expats, and pie lovers from across the country.
